Explorers is for anyone aged 14-18, both male and female. You don’t have to have been in Scouting before, and you don’t have to have been at Felixstowe before. It gives the opportunity for much more adventure and independence than the younger sections of Scouting, whilst still retaining all the fun and excitement!

You can move up from Scouts at any point when you feel ready between the ages of 13.5 and 14.5. When you reach the age of 18 you can move on to the next stage of Scouting which is Network.

In our District, Explorer Scouts meet on a regular basis all across the district. Each Explorer Scout Unit (ESU) has its own identity and programme but link up on occasions with other Units in the District and County for events and camps.

Explorer Scouts can use many of their exciting and challenging activities to count towards the Chief Scouts Awards (Platinum and Diamond) and their Duke of Edinburgh Award (Bronze and Silver).

Each Scout District has a DESC. This is a District Explorer Scout Commissioner, who organises and manages Explorer Scouting within their District. Explorer Scout Leaders (ESL) and Assistant Explorer Scout Leaders (AESL) manage each unit and ensure the programme is implemented.
